News

Hey we have some big news for you all! We are going on our first proper tour this october with former Wilco member Jay Bennett. We will be doing direct support for Jay as well as serving as his backing band. His record Magnificent Defeat is coming out on Ryko Disc in September, we will be touring in support of that as well as our record Seeds of Devastation. We are honored to be working with an artist we can all say has influenced our own songwriting. Dates are posted in the show section with some more tba. We will hopefully hit the south and west coast next year as most of the dates are east coast based.

Seeds of Devastation is currently available on sale from us as well as Insound.com and soon from MilesofMusic.com. Click the link below to buy the record post paid $12 NOW!

hello friends.. thanks to all that came out to the shows last weekend.. we had a blast as always. super thanks go to tim the taper and shani for capturing our performance with video and audio. BUT THE BIGS NEWS IS we are pleased to announce we have found management over at undertow music with mr. jefferson macklin… after some hardcore spooning and notes after class we decided to make it official.. we are stoked to be a part of such a great company that has such artists as pedro the lion, jay bennett, and centromatic on its roster. that being said we have now decided to self- release a limited cd run of our debut album seeds of devasation. this little gem will be limited to 1000 copies and should be up for sale by the end of summer or sooner. we are putting all the final touches together and we couldnt be happier. of course we will have a way for you all to buy it through here and our myspace site.. the talented luke drozd of the uk did the artwork for it and our great friend and all around go to guy mike gibson is doing the layout.. we are super excited and expect more shows upon its release..

So we were honored to be featured in this month’s AP&R Best Unsigned Bands section of Alternative Press Magazine. here’s the scoop.

Ap Article in AP&R Unsigned Bands of the Month
May Issue 2006

HQ: Iowa City, IA
Now Playing: Seeds of Devastation (www.deathships.com)

The Story So Far: Orginally started in 2001 by frontman Dan Maloney as an acoustic side project to his then-main band, Faultlines, Death Ships has grown into a full-fledging quartet, dominating radio waves with only a spliy cassette to their name. “I started a label called Faithful Anchor Tape Club, in which I released a Death Ships split with David Strackany,” Maloney says. “(It) generated a small buzz in Iowa City, where our demos reached No. 1 on the University of Iowa radio station, KRUI,” Deep Elm records took note of the band’s gorgeous lush alt-country/folk, and put their song “thelma Lou” on the second volume of its This is Indie Rock series. Dates with Low, Owen, and Limbeck followed.

Why you should know them: Because their as-yet-unreleased debut, Seeds of Devastation, is itching to be your soundtrack for watching leaves change color later this year(here’s hoping it finds a label home before then). The bands mature alt-pop style is wise beyond its years-and is completely unsuited for a band as heavy as the Death Ships. “A lot of people ask me why we call the band Death Ships,” says Maloney. “Part of the reason is I am a nautical fanatic-also, I enjoy the irony of having a tough-sounding hardcore name while we are anything but,” he quickly addeds:”Yet.”
